Vietnam earned a total of 119 medals, ranking second after Malaysia at the 16 th ASEAN University Games, which wrapped up in Vientiane, Laos, on December 20.
The 258-member Vietnamese team competed in 12 among 17 sports, winning 56 gold medals, 35 silvers and 28 bronzes.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Prof. Doc. Soukkongseng Saignaleuth, head of the Lao National University, said that the event aimed to further promote sporting activities among Southeast Asian students to keep pace with their peers in the region and the world.
It also offered a chance for students to meet and show their friendship and solidarity, as well as boost cooperation between students of ASEAN member countries, he added.-VNA
