Vietnam rescues distressed Philippine at sea

A Philippine citizen who fell serious ill on the Liberian flagged ship Nave Cetus, about 215 nautical miles off southern Vung Tau city, was safely taken ashore and given treatment on August 11.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNA) - A Philippine citizen who fell serious ill on the Liberian flagged ship Nave Cetus, about 215 nautical miles off southern Vung Tau city, was safely taken ashore and given treatment on August 11.

The sailor, named Baroma Edmundo, was suffering from severe asthma. He was examined and given first aid by doctors from the Le Loi hospital in Vung Tau city immediately after the rescue ship returned to harbour.

The victim was taken to hospital for further treatment when his health was stabilised.

Earlier, upon receiving information of the situation from HCM City’s coastal information station, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre for Zone 3 sent its SAR 272 vessel to access the foreign ship, which was sailing from Mexico to Singapore, to provide first aid for the victim.-VNA
