Vietnam, RoK cooperate in copyright protection

The ministries of culture, sports and tourism of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) signed a memorandum of understanding on copyright protection cooperation at a conference in Hanoi on May 30.

The move is expected to promote the legal use ofartistic works and develop the two countries’ culture and innovation,heard the function.

Protecting copyright at a timeof global integration is essential for ensuring the legitimate interestsof the creators and producing a healthy environment forcompetitiveness, experts said.

After becoming moreaware of copyright self-protection measures and the self-execution oflegal regulations, artists and businesses have been working closely withVietnamese law enforcement agencies to stop any violations in thefield, said deputy head of the Vietnam Copyright Office Pham Thi KimOanh.

Vietnam ’s laws stipulate fines of 250million VND (12,000 USD) for copyright violations by individuals and 500million VND (24,0000 USD) by organisations.

Lastyear, the Vietnamese ministry collected over 2 billion VND (about 95,200USD) in fines from businesses for software copyright violations, andordered three websites to remove thousands of pirated films.

It also received 60 letters of complaint on copyright disputes over142 book editions from 25 publishing houses during the year.

Vietnam and the RoK have stepped up co-operation for copyrightprotection since January this year, with the RoK Copyright Centreopening a representative office in Vietnam.-VNA

Over 1.2 million students begin national high school graduation exam

Under the current examination format, candidates are required to complete the mandatory Literature and Mathematics tests, along with a combined test comprising two subjects selected from a range of options, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Foreign Languages, History, Geography, Technology-Industry, Technology-Agriculture, and Economics-Law. Students may also choose to take a foreign language different from the one studied at school.
