The national men's football team and a Republic of Korea student team drew 0-0 in an international friendly match on March 2 in Hanoi.

The match was the first game of 2014 for coach Hoang Van Phuc and his players and was organised to help them prepare for their upcoming fixture against Hong Kong in the qualifying round for the Asian Cup 2015, which will take place at the My Dinh national stadium on March 5.

Despite ending as a bore draw, the game expressed the spirit and friendship between Vietnam and the RoK, while helping a number of Vietnamese young players gain vital experience playing on the international stage.

In recent years, the Republic of Korea student side have been something of a bogey team for Vietnam, beating them in the Ho Chi Minh City Cup in 2008 and 2009. Vietnam did snatch a victory, however, in the semi-finals of the BTV Cup in 2013.-VNA
