Vietnam hopes to receive more support from the Russian Government, Ministry of Education and Science and the country’s education institutions in training human resources, especially in nuclear energy and technology fields.
The suggestion was made by Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan during talks with his Russian counterpart Livanov Dmitryi Victorovich in Hanoi on November 12.
Minister Luan thanked the Russian Government and people for their assistance in training a great number of Vietnamese experts and skilled workers, who became a core force in Vietnam’s national defence and construction.
He said Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training as well as its education sector carries out comprehensive and intensive reforms in the field to further develop human resources, towards a knowledge-based economy.
Vietnam wants Russia to continue assisting it in the field through increasing Russian scholarships for its citizens to 1,000 by 2020, Luan said, adding that Vietnam needs to train its workforce in technological fields of biology, new material technology, space energy and medicine technology, marine science research and ship design.
Luan expressed his hope that Russia will also help Vietnam train manpower for the country’s nuclear technology development, which will serve the building of nuclear power plants in Vietnam.
For his part, Victorovich agreed with the Vietnamese minister’s proposals, while affirming Russia’s commitment to work closely with Vietnam in the fields, especially in nuclear energy.
The two ministers concurred in stepping up the establishment of a Vietnam – Russia Technology University and promoting the teaching of the Russian language and culture in Vietnamese education institutions.
They also said that it is necessary to elevate the Vietnam-Russia joint committee on science and technology cooperation into an intergovernmental committee on education, training and science-technology cooperation.-VNA
