Vietnam took silver in the Kuala Lumpur World Sepak Takraw Cup after losing 0-3 to Thailand in the final on July 25.
Against the No. 1 team in the world, the inexperienced Vietnamese failed to make much headway against a staunch defence. But the silver means Vietnam quality for the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF) Super Series.
The Super Series aims to promote the sport around the world. Only the best performing teams in high-profile tournaments such as the World Cup, Asian Games, Arafura Games and Southeast Asian Games qualify to take part in the event.
The Super Series has four legs. The first will be held in Thailand from September 8-11, followed by Malaysia in December, Vietnam next February and Iran two months later. The final will be held in China in June.
The Vietnamese men’s team failed to reach the top 12 in the World Cup and will miss the Super Series this season./.
