Vietnamese athletes will compete in six sports at the second Asian Para Games to be held in Incheon, the Republic of Korea, from October 18-24, according to the Vietnam Sports Association for Disabled Athletes (VSAD).
Vu The Phiet, VSAD Vice Chairman and Secretary General, said Vietnamese athletes will compete in track-and-field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis and bowling events. The delegation aims for between 6-9 gold medals and the 15th position on the medal tally.
Phiet said the hope for gold is pinned on badminton player Pham Duc Trung from Hanoi, weightlifters Le Van Cong and Nguyen Binh An both from Ho Chi Minh City, swimmers Vo Thanh Tung, Nguyen Thanh Trung and Do Thanh Hai, and track-and-field athlete Cao Ngoc Hung.
At the first Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China in 2010, the Vietnamese delegation was ranked 11th among 41 participating countries with three gold, four silver and 10 bronze medals.
A ceremony to send off the delegation to Incheon will be held in Hanoi on October 8.-VNA
