Vietnam to have 184 fishing ports by 2050: draft plan

Vietnam will have a total of 184 fishing ports, capable of handling approximately 3 million tonnes of fish annually, and 160 typhoon shelters for boats by 2050 under a plan drafted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam will have a total of 184fishing ports, capable of handling approximately 3 million tonnes of fishannually, and 160 typhoon shelters for boats by 2050 under a plan drafted bythe Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

By 2030, there will also be 160 storm shelters, comprising30 regional and 130 provincial ones, capable of accommodating some 90,600fishing vessels.

These ports and shelters will cover about 1,038ha of landarea and 5,079ha of water surface in total.

Between 2021 and 2030, Vietnam plans to construct fivefirst-class fishing ports for fishery hubs across the country, namely HaiPhong, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Kien Giang. It will alsoprioritise developing infrastructure and logistics services at fishing portsand storm shelters.

Some 60.37 trillion VND (2.6 billion USD) will be earmarked forinfrastructure development at the fishing ports and storm shelters.

Out of the 125 fishing ports across Vietnam, 68 are currentlyoperational, including three first-class, 54 second-class and 11 third-classones. The remainders are under construction or not eligible to open. There are also74 active typhoon shelters, with a total capacity of 50,885 vessels, approved bythe Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development./.

Cashless payments open gateway to financial inclusion

Cashless payments continued to grow rapidly in the first eight months of 2026. The number and value of cashless transactions rose 34.56% and 13.26% year-on-year, respectively, while online transactions increased 46.57% in number and 21.77% in value.

Ho Chi Minh City offers new destinations for FDI flows

The merger of Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau has opened up a larger development space, enabling the city to reshape its approach to attracting foreign investment. In particular, Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW of the Politburo sets out clear orientations for developing the foreign-invested economic sector, providing a basis for shifting the focus from the amount of investment capital to the quality of investment.

Acording to VICOFA, Vietnam needs to focus on exporting green coffee beans that meet EUDR criteria, particularly as compliance levels among some other producing countries remain low.
