Vietnam to host int’l hydropower conference

The 78th International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) annual meeting will be held in Hanoi from May 23-26.
The 78th International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) annual meeting will be held in Hanoi from May 23-26.

As the first international event on irrigation, hydro electricity, water resources and environment in Southeast Asia, the gathering will be co-sponsored by ICOLD and the Vietnam National Committee on Large Dams and Water Resources Development (VNCOLD).

According to the organising board, about 600 to 1,000 leaders of ICOLD member countries, representatives of international organisations, scientists, experts, businesses and managers worldwide will attend the event.

The participants will take part in a symposium themed “Dam and Sustainable Water Resources Development” with 17 areas of focus and 180 scientific reports and a roundtable entitled “Damps and Hydroelectricity for Sustainable Development in Africa .”

An exhibition showcasing advanced technologies and innovations of international organisations, giants, consultation agencies, manufacturers across the world will take place as part of the event.

After the conference, participants will have chance to enjoy five technical tours of damps across Vietnam such as Hoa Binh, Son La, Cua Dat, Thao Long, Phu Ninh, Dinh Binh, Ham Thuan-Da Mi and Tri An.


Founded in 1928, ICOLD is a non-governmental organization that provides a forum for the exchange of information and expertise pertaining to dam engineering and related topics. It aims to ensure that dams are built safely and in an environmentally-friendly manner. The commission includes national committees from more than 80 countries./.
