Vietnam tourism recovers strongly in H1

2024 is the year of tourism recovery and development. The sector this year has been focusing on green and sustainable growth. After the first six months, tourism activities in many localities have shown positive signs in terms of both tourist arrivals and revenue.

According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, in the first half of this year, Vietnam sees a 60% increase in foreign arrivals year-on-year, and a 1.3-fold tourism revenue compared to pre-pandemic levels. Notably, destinations have witnessed the return of visitors from major traditional markets.

At present, domestic tourism is entering the peak season. In June, domestic tourist arrival reached 14 million, with about 9.3 million staying overnight. In the first half of the year, domestic tourists totaled over 66 million, with total tourism revenue estimated at over 17 billion USD.

To lure more domestic visitors, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism launched the "Vietnamese People Travel Vietnam – I Love Vietnam" campaign in April. The program has urged local authorities and tourism businesses, to innovate and diversify products to attract tourists. Despite high airfares, local destinations still welcome influxes of visitors.

With the growth in tourist numbers in the first half of the year, the tourism industry is confident in reaching its target of 17-18 million international visitors, and over 100 million domestic visitors this year./.
