Vietnam wins 9 medals at world junior weightlifting event

Vietnam’s team have won 9 medals, including one gold and six silvers, during the first 7 competition days at the World Junior Weightlifting Championship in Peru, which will end on April 12.

Khomg My Phuong, the only girl in the team, won the gold medal in thegirls’ 44-kilogramme snatch category when she delivered her best liftof 70 kilograms, 3 kilograms above second-place Gao Yimei of China.

Phuong brought home two other silvers after finishing second in theclean and jerk category with a lift of 146 kilograms and a total lift of216 kilograms.

Favourite Nguyen Tran Anh Tuanfailed to land any gold medals after finishing second in all threecategories in the boys’ 56-kilogramme event.

Two remaining members of the team, Le Nguyen Quoc Bao and Le Quang Vinh, claimed another silver and two bronze medals./.
