Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnamese national track-and-field team will participate in the Philippines Open Athletics Championships which is scheduled to take place from March 21 to March 26 in the Philippines.
Most notably, the event will see Bui Thi Nguyen, champion of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), and her teammate Huynh Thi My Tien compete in the women’s 100m hurdles, reported Radio The Voice of Vietnam (VOV).
The other local athletes on the Vietnamese team will compete in the men’s 400m hurdles and women’s 400m hurdles, both of which are key competitions as Vietnamese athletes prepare for SEA Games 32 which is to be held this May in Cambodia.
The Philippine National Open Athletics Championships organised by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association is an annual outdoor track-and-field competition.
The tournament was originally scheduled to take place at the PhilSports Stadium in Pasig in 2020, but was postponed due to the development of the COVID-19 pandemic, with this year marking the third version of the championships.
Vietnam sent a total of 12 athletes to the 2023 edition and the event is considered to be preparation for them ahead of SEA Games 32 in May./.
