Vietnam’s bodybuilding team has won one gold and two silver medals at the World Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Championships in Budaörs, just outside Budapest, which concluded on November 17.
Asian Championships winner Nguyen Anh Thong had no difficulty dominating the competition that lured strong rivals. The Vietnamese strongman once again proved his prowess and took the men's 60kg division title.
Pham Van Mach came second with a silver medal in the men’s 60kg event while former world champion Nguyen Van Lam put in an excellent performance in the men’s 70kg event and earned silver.
Thong, a Mekong Delta's Can Tho city-born athlete, also triumphed at the Asian championships two months ago. He is the third Vietnamese world champion since 2001.
According to coach Huynh Anh Thong, he put in a perfect performance which clearly showed off his muscles and swayed the judges. He said the world title would be a great boost for Nguyen Anh Thong, who will compete at the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar next month.
Sanctioned by the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF) and supported by authorities of Budaörs, the world championships attracted more than 300 competitors from nearly 50 countries and territories.-VNA
