Nguyen Anh Khoi, 11, stormed to victory in the boy's U16 standard category at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Open Chess Championships which wrapped up in Thailand on June 13.
The youngster, who is world U10 defending champion, earlier took the lead in the U12's rapid chess event.
With Khoi's outstanding performance, Vietnam took the lead at the event with 21 golds, 22 silvers and 26 bronzes, followed by the Philippines with eight golds, 10 silvers and eight bronzes and Singapore with six golds, two silvers and three bronzes.
The 10-day tournament attracted 386 players from 15 countries who competed across 14 age groups for both men's and women's singles, pairs and mixed pairs events.
Vietnam sent a total of 116 players to participate in the standard, rapid and blitz events.-VNA
