Hanoi (VNA) – A photo exhibition entitled “Vietnamese communal houses” opened in Berlin on October 8, introducing the unique architecture of ancient Vietnamese communal houses to German visitors.

Co-hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany and the socio-cultural centre iKARUS, the event is part of activities to celebrate the 45th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The exhibition displays a series of photos taken by architect-photographer Tran Trung Hieu, a member of the Vietnamese Communal House group.

In his opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Minh Vu said the embassy has discussed with leaders of the Gardens of the World (Garten der Welt) the idea of building a Vietnamese garden in the Gardens of the World in Berlin.

The centre of the Vietnamese Garden will be a communal house complex, combining lakes and miniatures featuring the beauty of Vietnamese villages, he said.

If the project is implemented, it will greatly contribute to promoting Vietnam’s culture and tourism to German people, as well as further strengthening cooperative relations between the two countries, Vu said, adding that it will be a pride of the 200,000-strong Vietnamese community in the European country./.
