Vietnamese designer Vo Viet Chung will represent Vietnam at the Asian Fashion Week in Thailand from July 5-11.
The fashion week, which carries the theme Silk – Asian Heritage, has been organised by Sustaining Thai Art Culture Internationally, and is expected to attract the participation of designers from 15 countries.
Chung will show two collections of 30 items each, which he has called Co Ba Xu Viet (Ms Ba from Vietnam) and Nguoi Luc Tinh (Southerners). He says the designs were a reflection of the daily clothes worn by women in south of Vietnam.
His earlier collection Co Ba Xu Viet, consisting of 15 outfits made from silk, was voted among the top five of the world's 30 leading designers at the Silk Festival in Shanghai, China, in 2007. The show was broadcast live on Fashion TV and CNN channels.
For Nguoi Luc Tinh, Chung has used a range of materials such as velvet, lace and silk, which he has blended with accessories that include strings of wooden beads, silk scarves and dried flowers.
Chung was the first Vietnamese designer to win a UNESCO award for helping preserve Lanh My A, silk fabric produced in south Vietnam./.
