Vietnamese exports received a sweet boost on June 24 with the presence of its red and yellow-fleshed dragon fruits at the grand opening of Spinneys, a high-end supermarket chain from the United Arab Emirates.
Vietnamese dragon fruit not only meets the world's top bio-safety import conditions but also is highly welcomed by Australian consumers, said the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia.
The first batch of Vietnamese dragon fruit was sold at Perth Market City in Western Australia by the Empro Company, a Western Australian Fruit & Vegetables wholesaler, on October 24.
Vietnamese dragon fruit went up for sale at Australian grocery stores from September 24 after nine years of negotiations, following lychees and mangoes.
Australia recently announced that it would permit the import of Vietnamese dragon fruit, making Vietnam the first country to get licence to export fresh dragon fruit to the country.
Vietnamese dragon fruit has been exported to 40 countries and territories such as China, Thailand and Indonesia, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
