Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese boxer Nguyen Thi Tam has trounced two-time world champion Kyzaibay Nazym of Kazakhstan 5-0 at the ongoing IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India.

The victory in the flyweight division’s Round of 32 helped Tam win a ticket to Round of 16 to face Botswana’s Lethabo Bokamoso. If she defeats Bokamoso, the athlete will secure a slot in the quarterfinals.

Tam, 28, is currently No.1 among 178 athletes in her flyweight division by BoxRec with a 5-star rating.

Other Vietnamese at the tournament, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran also defeated Venelina Poptoleva of Bulgaria in the Flyweight Round of 32, while Vo Thi Thanh Hao beat South African boxer Phiwokuhle Mnguni in the featherweight division.

The championships, featuring 12 weight categories ranging from 48kg to over 81kg, takes place at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex from March 15 to 26. It offers participants a lucrative prize fund of 2.4 million USD./.
