Players at the event (Photo: VNA) Singapore (VNA) – Twenty football teamsrepresenting overseas Vietnamese students, entrepreneurs and intellectuals inSingapore were brought together at the fifth Hung Kings Cup championship openedin the island country on May 6.
The annual competition was held on the occasionof worshipping Hung Kings, the legendary founders of Vietnam, which falls onthe 10th day of the third lunar month every year.
The event aims to strengthen friendship andcloseness among Vietnamese expatriates in Singapore.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, VietnameseAmbassador to Singapore Tao Thi Thanh Huong said the football champdemonstrates the fine tradition of “drinking water, remembering the source”,promotes patriotism, and helps young generations understand better about thenation’s glorious history.
Head of the Vietnamese community liaisoncommittee Nguyen Thuy Ha said the football competition is part of activities tolook towards the homeland, creating a healthy playground for Vietnamesestudents.
The committee took this opportunity to launch adonation campaign to support naval soldiers who are doing missions in Vietnam’sTruong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.
The closing ceremony of the tourney will takeplace on May 12.-VNA
