Around 600 Vietnamese guest workers attended a gathering on employment consultancy in Cheonan city of southern Chungcheong province in the Republic of Korea on April 15.
Addressing the opening, Director of the Korea Support Centre for Foreign Workers Lee Hang-bock said RoK employers show keen interest and prefer Vietnamese workers because of their strong work ethic and rapid acquisition of skills.
He advised those whose contracts nearly finished to strictly abide by RoK and Vietnamese law and offered to help them with opportunities to continue working in his country.
Director of the Overseas Workers Centre of the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Phan Van Minh underscored the role of Vietnamese workers, which he said has created a fine image with RoK employers.
He said they have brought about good work opportunities and high income for Vietnamese workers and contributed to the Employment Permit System (EPS) programme.
He suggested Vietnamese workers complete their signed contracts, strictly follow regulations at their working sites, maintain a good relationship with their employers and not change their working places without legitimate reasons or stay illegally in the RoK.
At the event, representatives of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD) in Cheonan, the Overseas Workers Centre and the Vietnamese Workers Management Board in the RoK answered Vietnamese workers’ questions to help them understand new RoK policies, new work opportunities and the necessity of completing procedures before ending the contract, in order to have the opportunity to return to work in the country at a later date.
Since 2004, Vietnam has sent more than 63,000 workers to the RoK, representing a quarter of the workers sent from 15 nations to the RoK under the EPS programme. At present, the Overseas Workers Centre and HRD are assisting Vietnamese workers to return home on schedule and also helping those who wish to return to work in the RoK.-VNA
