Dien Bien (VNA) – A delegation from Vietnam’s northern mountainous province of Dien Bien and Lao province of Luang Namtha signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two sides at their talks in Dien Bien Phu city on August 22.
Accordingly, the two provinces will conduct communication work to raise people’s awareness of upholding long-standing traditions, promote the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos and between Dien Bien and Luang Namtha provinces. Favourable conditions will be created for the implementation of cooperation activities in areas of mutual interest within the framework of collaboration between the two countries and between the two provinces.
The two localities will also promote their potential and strength and encourage economic sectors to pour investments into areas of their mutual interest, step up trade promotion activities and market surveys as well as exchange of goods between the two sides while arranging enterprises to participate in exhibitions organised by both sides. They will cooperate in the fields of education - training, tourism, energy, clean agriculture, science, technology, health, culture and people-to-people exchange.
At their talks, the provincial leaders informed each other of their respective locality's socio-economic development, national defence and security, and the building of a political system in the first six months of this year. They expressed their delight at the fruitful development of the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two sides in recent times. The two sides have regularly exchanged information, paid attention to important political and social events of each side and facilitating cooperation in various fields.
They discussed orientations and measures to enhance cooperation in various fields, highlighting that Dien Bien and Luang Namtha have quite similar natural conditions. Therefore, it is necessary for the two localities to step up exchanges to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in many fields, expand collaboration in tourism development, crime prevention and control, especially drug-related crime, and maintain security and order in border areas, they said./.
