
Son La (VNA) – Police of Vietnam and Laos held aconference on April 26 to review a plan on fighting drug crimes along theborder section between Vietnam’s Son La province and Laos’s Houaphan province.
The event in Moc Chau district of Son La wasattended by Lt. Gen. Tran Van Ve – Deputy Director General of the GeneralDepartment of Police under Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security, his Laocounterpart Col. Kham Hungseng Pasot, along with officials of Son La and thecountries’ relevant agencies.
On November 5, 2015, the police generaldepartments of Vietnam and Laos signed a document on measures to solve thecomplex situation of drug crimes along the Son La-Houaphan border.
Since then, they have worked to carry out theagreement, focusing on communication activities, prevention measures, andcracking down on transnational drug rings.
They have uncovered more than 2,600 casesinvolving 5,500 traffickers and seized nearly 130kg of heroin, 64kg of opium,and nearly 300,000 synthetic drug pills.
Relevant forces of Vietnam and Laos agreed tocontinue close cooperation to fight drug crimes, especially cross-border drugtrafficking rings, thereby contributing to the overall relations of the twocountries.-VNA
