Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese midfielder NguyenQuang Hai’s left-footed free-kick effort against Yemen has been named the BestGoal at the 2019 Asian Cup.

More than 100,000 people voted for Hai’s superstrike putting him clear winner with almost half of all the votes compared tothe other nine goals.

His goal opened the scoring in Vietnam’s 2-0 winover Yemen in the Group D’s third match at the tournament in the United ArabEmirates (UAE).

Hai’s effort beat Wu Lei (China) who finishedsecond and Mohanad Ali (Iraq) who came in third.

The 2019 Asian Cup finals wrapped up on February1 with the first-ever title for Qatar and a total of 130 goals scored over 51matches or an average of 2.54 goals per match.

The three-day poll on the AFC’s website for thebest goal of the tournament concluded on February 6.

Hai’s amazing goal was of great significance asit helped Park Hang-seo’s side go through to the knock-out stages as one of thefour best third-placed teams.

Earlier, Hai and his team mate Doan Van Hau werenamed among the most outstanding players who are 21 years of age and below atthe ongoing Asian Cup 2019 by Fox Sports.

Calling the Vietnamese midfielder “theVietnamese Messi”, Fox Sports Asia said what stands out the most about him ishis ability to play wherever he is asked to.

Hai has been invited to train with La Liga clubDeportivo Alaves this March in Spain.

The footballer will spend 10 days with the teamand have a chance to watch a match with either FC Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Deportivo Alaves joined La Liga in 2016. Theycurrently stand fifth in the table. They made a big impression on June 10 whenthey beat Real Madrid 1-0. 

Hai’s teammates, defender Doan Van Hau orgoalkeeper Bui Tien Dung is likely to join him in Spain.

After their success in recent tournaments, Hai,Hau and other Vietnamese players have received offers to play abroad. Howeversome of them are not ready and others are struggling to secure their clubs’permission.-VNA
