A painting entitled “My Hanoi City” by Tran Tuan has won third prize in the “Bright Lights, Big City” online art competition held by the British Saatchi Gallery.
The oil painting on canvas was drawn in 2009, measuring 40x54cm.
“I love Hanoi city which lies along the bank of the Red River. It has both old and new streets with many lakes, colorful markets and residential areas”, Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) website quoted Tran Tuan as saying.
Though his painting came in third at the competition, it was the first one sold.
Entries to the prestigious online competition were evaluated by artists and world-renowned curators, and voted for by viewers online.
This year's competition attracted 2,000 entries. Two Asian painters were in the top 10, including third prize winner Tran Tuan from Vietnam and Jeayeol Han from the Republic of Korea, who placed eighth.
Tran Tuan, born in 1961, is a well-known artist whose paintings are in the collections of many art collectors in Europe, Asia and America.
He graduated from Hanoi Fine Arts University and has displayed works in many group exhibitions and six solo shows.-VNA
