The Vietnam Paper Corporation (Vinapaco) on October 26 was awarded withthe Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certificate as a recognition forits sustainable forest management.
Vinapaco hasbecome the first business in Vietnam to have 6,000 ha of forest andforest land – out of 125,000 ha the corporation manages nationwide –presented with a FSC certificate.
According toVinapaco Director General Vo Sy Dong, the certification will encouragelocal people and businesses in production and generate jobs for millionsof labours, contributing to hunger elimination and poverty reduction inmountainous regions, especially to reducing adverse impacts of forestexploitation and processing to the environment.
Established in 1993 as a response to concerns over global deforestation,FSC is a pioneer forum where the global consensus onresponsible forest management convenes and through democratic processeffects solutions to the pressures facing the world’s forests andforest-dependent communities.
FSC certification provides acredible link between responsible production and consumption of forestproducts, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisionsthat benefit people and the environment as well as providing ongoingbusiness value./.
