The photographer Tran Vinh Nghia from the southern province of Binh Thuan has won the first prize of an international photo contest on the theme of “We can end poverty”.
According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Vietnam office, the award ceremony took place in New York on September 15. The contest was launched by UNDP, the Olympus Company and French News Agency AFP.
Nghia’s prize-winning photo “Daily work” was taken one morning in the fishing village of Phu Hai .
“These fishermen are busy gathering fish from the net with a hope to escape from poverty by their own efforts” Nghia explained.
