Vietnam’s national shooting team had a good start at the 17 th Asian Games (ASIAD 17) with two medals on the morning of September 20.
The first medal for Vietnam at the event, a bronze, was won by the team of three shooters, Hoang Xuan Vinh, Tran Quoc Cuong and Nguyen Hoang Phuong in the men’s 50m slow fire pistol. China gained gold medal while the silver medal went to the Republic of Korea.
Later in the men’s 50 meter slow fire pistol for individuals, Nguyen Hoang Phuong lost to an Indian rival to get the silver.
According to officials from Vietnam Shooting Federation, Phuong is not doing at his best as this is the first time he has competed in a major event like ASIAD. His best result is a gold medal in team discipline at SEA Games 27.
With the two medal, Vietnam temporarily ranks fourth in the medal tally. China is the leading delegation with three gold medals and one bronze medal.-VNA
