Vietnamese silk impresses Italian friends

Vietnamese silk products were brought closer to Italian friends via the “Heritage Connection Journey” and “Silk Talk” programmes, held jointly by the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, designer Minh Hanh, and Vietnam Silk House to mark the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Italy diplomatic relations.

The Vietnamese traditional long dress, known as the ao dai, and silk are shining in Rome - the capital of global fashion. The exquisite blend of Oriental and Western heritage has created new values in the modern world of fashion.

Exhibitions of ao dai inspired by Italy’s heritage and designed by Minh Hanh left an indelible impression on international friends.

Earlier, at “Silk Talk”, which was held at the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, representatives from Italy’s fashion industry, experts in sustainable agriculture production, and Italian media gained a better insight into the history of Vietnam’s silk industry and techniques in Vietnamese silk production.

The programme was aimed at creating opportunities for Vietnamese silk to reach out to the European market.

Vietnam is a major silk manufacturer and ranks second globally in terms of raw silk exports. Silk production is currently a spearhead industry in many Vietnamese provinces where there are favourable conditions for the sustainable development of silk and silk-based products./.
