Vietnam continues to top the list of countries with the largest number of arrivals to Cambodia.
During the first five months of this year, 341,000 Vietnamese people visited the country - representing 19 percent of the total number of foreign tourists, according to recently-released data from the Cambodian Tourism Ministry.
Second position went to the Republic of Korea with about 215,000 arrivals, followed by China with 202,000. Laos, Thailand, the US, Japan, Russia, France and the UK rounded up the top ten.
The most popular destinations for foreign visitors included Angkor Wat – the Buddist temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world - the capital city of Phnom Penh and the UNESCO-recognised Preah Vihear temple.
During the five-month period, about 367,000 Cambodian nationals took part in outbound trips to countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, the US and China - a year on year increase of 13.7 percent.
Tourism is considered as one of the key sectors in the Cambodian economy and has registered a stable growth of 15 to 20 percent per annum, making a significant contribution to the country’s total gross domestic product. In 2013, Cambodia has set a target of receiving 4 million foreign tourists.-VNA
