Vietnam’s achievements at the ninth ASEAN Skill Competition have contributed to improving the position of the Vietnamese vocational training sector in the ASEAN region, against the backdrop of the country’s lack of high-quality workers.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh made the remark at a ceremony in Hanoi on March 23 to review the competition, which was held in Indonesia from November 11-20.
The Vietnamese team bagged 5 golds, 6 silvers and 11 bronzes at the competition, second only to the host.
The performance reflected the enormous efforts to adopt a new teaching method in order to produce a contingent of young and highly-skilled workers, therefore helping meet national demand during the global integration process, said Ninh.
He asked ministries and departments to work with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to develop human resources and actively take part in vocational skill competitions at national, regional and global levels.
The 42nd World Skills Contest is planned for July, 2013, in Germany.
Vietnam is now working to host the 10th ASEAN Skill Competition in 2014.-VNA
