17-year-old Thach Kim Tuan shone at the 2011 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Pattaya, Thailand on September 5 after bagging three gold medals and breaking two world records at the 56kg bodyweight category.
In this category, Tuan competed with six weightlifters from host Thailand , Malaysia and Uzbekistan .
The Vietnamese weightlifter made 127 kg in the men’s snatch event to take gold, outstripping his Thai runner-up Arun Kon Ngoe by 25 kg and breaking the record of 122kg by Chinese Chen Xiong.
He earned the second gold in the men’s clean and jerk event after lifting 150 kg, 20 kg more than the score of the silver medal winner.
With a total of 277 kg, Tuan pocketed the third gold medal and broke the world youth record of 273 kg held by himself.
According to coach Huynh Huu Chi, with these achievements, Tuan will have more chances to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics./.
