Vietnam’s ministry confirms citizen death in Philippines’s Abu Sayyaf attacks

Hanoi (VNA) – Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang on July 12 confirmed a Vietnamese citizen, named Tran Viet Van, was killed in the Philippines military’s attacks on the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Tran Viet Van,” Hang said, expressing her hope that the bereaved will soon overcome this huge loss to stabilise life.

The Embassy of Vietnam in the Philippines is coordinating with relevant agencies at home and in the host country to complete forensic and legal procedures and support the victim’s family with funeral service, she added.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 11 summoned the Chargé d' affaires of the Embassy of the Philippines in Vietnam asking the Philippines to quickly address the capture of Vietnamese citizens in the country and ensure safety for them.-VN
