Vietnam exported over 7 million tonnes of rice worth 4.37 billion USD in the first three quarters of 2024, up 9.2% in volume and 23.5% in value compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has reported.

Although Vietnam’s rice exports have traditionally focused on Asian markets, experts have advised businesses to pay more attention to Africa which has emerged as a key potential market.

Rice exports reached a record 5.81 million tons in the first eight months of this year, a 21.4% increase over the same period of 2022. Rice export turnover in the period therefore came in at nearly 3.16 billion USD, an increase of more than 35.7%.

Representatives from 27 Vietnamese rice exporters and producers had a working session with France’s leading retailer Auchan to enquire about the group’s rice import demand.
