Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam is likely to reduce their gold medal target at the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games to be held in Malaysia next year following the recent decision of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).
The OCM decided to eliminate five sports from the competition programme of the Games namely judo, canoeing, bodybuilding, fencing and triathlon.
Of these sports, fencing is a "gold" mine for Vietnamese sport. At the 28th Games in Singapore in 2015, Vietnam won eight golds, two silvers and one bronze, leaving behind the runner-up Singapore who won only three golds, three silvers and seven bronzes.-VNA
