Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam's top chess ace Le Quang Liem finished his 2015 season 32nd in the world rankings.
Liem, whose Elo rating remained at 2,718 compared to November, jumps one spot despite not competing in any tournament.
2015 is a successful year for Liem who took the HDBank Cup and the World Championships' zonal competition titles. He made the third round of the world event before placing second in the Millionaire Open. He then won the Spice Cup.
Liem has aimed to get in the world top 30.
Another Vietnamese master Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son is placed No 124.
On the women's side, Pham Le Thao Nguyen has the best position among Vietnamese athletes. She is the world No 161.
In 2016, Vietnam will take part in different competitions including the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, the Olympiad and the World Standard Chess Championships.-VNA
