Vietnam-US literature forum to be held in Hue

A Vietnam-US literature forum will be held in the former imperial city of Hue on March 9, the Vietnam Writers Association (VWA) announced on March 7.

A Vietnam-US literature forum will be held in the former imperial cityof Hue on March 9, the Vietnam Writers Association (VWA) announced onMarch 7.

The event aims to mark the 20th anniversary of thebilateral ties between the VWA and the William Joiner Center for theStudy of War and Social Consequence, a US NGO that gathers many bignames in the US literacy circle such as Grace Paley, Larry Heineman TimO’Brien, Bruce Weigl among others.

A number of poets and writers fromVietnam and the US will assess the translation and introduction ofVietnamese literature to US readers over the past two decades anddiscuss cooperation in introducing the two countries’ literature in thefuture.

President of the VWA, poet Huu Thinh said the forum is animpressive exchange for not only war veteran writers but also youngwriters.

In the past 20 years, the William Joiner Center for theStudy of War and Social Consequence has cooperated with the VWA totranslate and present works by Vietnamese writers to US readers.

Thecentre has also helped bring 100 Vietnamese writers, artists andcultural researchers to the US to promote the image of a Vietnam inpeace to the American people.

On this occasion, the VWA PublishingHouse will translate and publish a collection of poems from US poets onVietnam’s culture and war.
