Hanoi (VNA) - The 8th International Exhibition on Shipbuilding, Marine Technology and Transportation (VietShip 2016) opened in Hanoi on February 24.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Cong highlighted Vietnam’s huge potential for shipbuilding thanks to its crucial geographic maritime location.
The biennial event presents opportunities for businesses and investors to access the latest information in the field, share new cutting-edge technology and seek investment opportunities to develop the shipbuilding industry in Vietnam and the world at large , he added.
The event drew 220 stands of 130 companies, including 78 foreign firms from Germany, the Netherlands, Turkey, the US, France, the UK, Finland, Denmark, the Republic of Korea, Norway, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and China.
It is expected to draw the participation of around 10,000 visitors, including ship builders, manufacturers and suppliers, together with leading scientists, designers and technicians.
Several workshops, signing agreements and contracts were also part of the event.
Vietship 2016 was organised by the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) at the National Convention Centre.-VNA
