The Vietnamese Business Association for Cooperation and Investment in Laos pledged to do long-term business in the neighbouring country in its first congress that opened on January 10 in Vientiane.
The event, which drew the participation of representatives from 122 businesses, praised the achievements made by the association members over the past years and put forwards directions for its operation.
Accordingly, in the first three years of operation (2010-2013), the association will focus on strengthening its apparatus, completing its working mechanisms and developing skillful human resources. In addition, the association will build an information centre, a business law centre and a club of entrepreneurs.
Addressing the congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Ta Minh Chau affirmed that the congress was a major event, marking the strong development of the Vietnamese business community in Laos . Chau said he believed that the association would help strengthen the special friendship between the two countries.
Vietnam is now the largest foreign investor in Laos , with 186 investment projects capitalised at over 2 billion USD./.
