Vietnam has the biggest potential for generating wind power in all of Southeast Asia , said a Germany-based expert.
Nguyen Ngoc Tan, a wind power expert who has received several awards for science and technology in Germany and the United States, said that the country’s potential for producing wind power is estimated to be 200 times higher than the capacity of the Son La hydro-power plant which is the largest of its kind in Vietnam with a capacity of 2,400 MW.
The wind power potential is about 10 times higher than the projected capacity of the electricity sector in 2020.
With a coastline of over 3,000 kilometres and its location in the Southeast Asian monsoon zone, Vietnam is perfectly positioned to develop the green and renewable energy. However, to date, the country has not yet taken full advantage of this kind of energy.-VNA
