VN pop star to perform at Japan-ASEAN Music Festival

Vietnamese pop star Dong Nhi will give two performances at the second Japan-ASEAN Music Festival 2018 in Tokyo on October 4.

HCM City(VNS/VNA) – Vietnamese pop star Dong Nhi will give two performances at thesecond Japan-ASEAN Music Festival 2018 in Tokyo on October 4.

Nhi of HCM City will sing a new song from her third album,which is expected to be released later this year to celebrate her 10-yearsinging career.

The 30-year-old songstress said she would bring non la (Vietnameseconical hat) to the stage.

“I’m very excited and proud. The festival is a specialopportunity to introduce Vietnamese music and culture to people in the region,”she said.

Nhi will perform with other artists from Japan andASEAN-member countries, such as Ryuji Imaichi, Ryotaro Sugi and Nogizaka46 fromJapan, and Sarah Hieronimo from the Philippines.

Japanese artist Piko Taro, who rose to fame with hishit Apple Pen, will be the host of the festival.

The festival celebrates the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relationsbetween Japan and ASEAN countries.

In 2014, pop star My Linh was a Vietnamese representative atthe first Japan-ASEAN Music Festival.

Dong Nhi, whose real name is Mai Hong Ngoc, began her musiccareer in 2008 after releasing teen-pop songs Khoc (Cry), Boi Roi (Embarrassment)and Bi Mat Cua Hanh Phuc (Secret of Happiness).

These songs helped her become famous among teenagers.

In 2009, she released her first album The First Step,which was named one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year at the 2010 Zing MusicAwards 2010.

She has released four albums and several singles, many ofthem hits, and has appeared in music reality shows as a competitor or mentor.

She was one of four coaches for the reality music shows TheVoice Kid Vietnam in 2016 and the Voice Vietnam in 2017.

Nhi won the Best Asian Artist title at the 2015 Mnet AsianMusic Awards (MAMA) in 2015, and Best Southeast Asian Act at the MTV EuropeMusic Awards 2016.

In 2017, she represented Vietnam at the Asia Song Festival atBusan Asiad Main Stadium in Busan, the Republic of Korea. Her performancesreceived welcome from Korean singers and audiences.

In a celebration of her 10-year career, Nhi will organise herbiggest-ever live show in HCM City later this year.-VNS/VNA
