Vietnamese athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh won a gold medal at the 16th Asian Junior Athletics Championships which wrapped up in Chinese Taipei on June 15.
Oanh topped the women's 3,000m steeplechase event with a time of 10 minutes 27.29 seconds.
The time is faster than her time recorded at the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar last year, where she took home a silver medal with a time of 10:30.29.
Hoang Thi Ngoc also brought home a bronze medal in the women's 400m with a time of 55.36 seconds.
With one gold and one bronze medal, Vietnam ranked 10th out of the 23 nations competing. China took the lead with 12 gold medals, 10 silver and two bronze.
Japan came in second with 11 gold medals, five silver and five bronze, with Qatar in third place with six gold, two silver and one bronze.
The top athletes will partake in the IAAF World Junior Championships on July 22-27 in Eugene, Oregon, in the US.-VNA
