Volocopter air taxi flies over Marina Bay in Singapore

An 18-propeller drone-like flying taxi has taken to the skies of Singapore for the first time, as German firm Volocopter conducted a test flight of its vehicle around the Marina Bay district.

Hanoi (VNA) - An 18-propeller drone-likeflying taxi has taken to the skies of Singapore for the first time, as Germanfirm Volocopter conducted a test flight of its vehicle around the Marina Baydistrict.

The battery-operated, two-seater vehicle flew for about two minutes and 30seconds, with a pilot on board, on October 22.

Earlier, Volocopter had already conducted tests in Helsinki of Finland, LasVegas of the US, Dubai and various parts of Germany.

Volocopter said it hopes toprovide the flying taxi service for the world’s major urban areas in the next2-4 years, and then launch it in traffic-choked cities in Asia.

Volocopter CEO Florian Reuter said Volocopter aims to bring it to Jakarta (Indonesia), Manila (the Philippines) andBangkok (Thailand) because they have a great need for it, and India and Chinatoo.

In Singapore, the flying taxi will be used to provide quick travel on specificroutes such as from Marina Bay to Sentosa island, home to a number of touristattractions and luxury hotels./.
