The “Water-related information system for the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta” (WISDOM) project will continue in Can Tho City.
The Southern Institution for Water Resources Research and the Can Tho People’s Committee have signed an agreement to carry out the project until 2013.
The project, which was triggered by a joint initiative from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in Vietnam and the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) in August 2005, will build four water monitoring stations along the Hau River.
The project’s goal is to jointly design and put into action an information system for the Mekong Delta, containing information on hydrology, sociology, information technologies and global observations. The integration of such data will enable the users of the system to analyse very specific questions and supply users with a tool to support regional planning activities.
The project also provides management services in disaster prevention and dealing with the loss of water resources at the project site./.
