Hanoi (VNA) – A webinar sharing experience in waste management toward achieving circular economy was held in Hanoi on December 15 in response to the 2021 Vietnam – Japan Environment Week.

The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (ISPONRE) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Speaking at the event, ISPONRE Director Asso. Prof Nguyen Dinh Tho said the documents adopted by the 13th National Party Congress and the socio-economic development strategy for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2025 have highlighted the encouragement of circular economic models.

JICA Deputy Representative in Vietnam Murooka Naomichi said circular economy is an alternative approach for linear economy, which has been hailed by the United Nations and organisations worldwide as the best way to break relations between economic growth and environment pollution.

According to him, circular economy helps mitigate the exploitation of natural resources and waste discharges while promoting economic growth, thus bringing more benefits to the country, community and businesses.

JICA Vietnam always stays ready to partner with Vietnamese agencies to reduce environment pollution and promote a circular economy, he said.

Participants at the event shared experience in solid waste management and Japan’s circular economic development, thus helping Vietnam fine-tune its policies./.
