Hanoi (VNA) - The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of and the ASEAN Committee in Brazil have jointly hosted a workshop themed "Brazil and ASEAN" in Brasilia under the chair of Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Alberto Franco França.
In his opening remarks, the Brazilian FM highlighted the achievements and contributions of the ASEAN Community to the world in general and Brazil in particular, saying that with more than 700 million people and an estimated total GDP of about 3 trillion USD, the community has increasingly affirmed its position in the international arena.
Two-way trade between ASEAN and Brazil maintained an amazing growth rate of 91% over the past five years, hitting nearly 30 billion USD in 2021 and up 21% over the figure of the whole 2021 in the first half of 2022.
Representing the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA), Sueme Mori said Brazil needs to continue to promote and expand the introduction of Brazilian products to ASEAN countries.
Addressing the December 1 workshop, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Pham Thi Kim Hoa reaffirmed the need for ASEAN countries to have a broad approach, strategic vision and responsible contribution in order to handle emerging challenges and promote sustainable recovery, including growth for the benefit of all people.
She took the occasion to spotlight Vietnam's role for the international community in general and the South American region in particular.
Participants also discussed issues related to potential and fields of cooperation for mutual development between ASEAN and Brazil./.
ASEAN, Brazil eye stronger trade and investment links
Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Pham Thi Kim Hoa has attended a virtual meeting between the ASEAN Committee in Brasilia (ACB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) which discussed opportunities for trade and investment and ways to develop economic relations between ASEAN member states and the Latin American country.
