Vietnam will have a chance to vie for a World Cup 2015 berth following a draw of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2014 in Ho Chi Minh City on November 29.
Draw results show Vietnam will play Australia, Japan and Jordan in Group A, and China will take on the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Myanmar in Group B.
Group matches will take place at Ho Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium and Binh Duong province’s Go Dau stadium from May 14-25, 2014.
Five best teams will be selected for World Cup 2015 competitions to be held in Canada.
According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), two group winners and runners-up will qualify for semi-finals and win wild cards to Canada in 2015.
The last World Cup ticket for Asia will depend on the result of play-off matches of the remaining teams.
Vietnamese players have high hopes of finishing third in Group A, as they defeated Jordan 4-0 at the recent AFF Cup 2013. They are likely to play either Thailand or Myanmar in a play-off match.
Vietnamese players are currently Southeast Asian defending champions, and they have several times overcome both Thailand and Myanmar.-VNA
