Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Roberto Azevedo affirmed the WTO will continue to assist Vietnam in its international integration process for the benefit of state members and the global economy.

Azevedo pledged his full support at a reception for Vietnam’s Acting Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Cong Nghiep on October 21 as part of his visit to Switzerland.

During the meeting, Nghiep informed his host of Vietnam’s progress in economic development, stressing that the country’s import-export turnover has grown remarkably since officially becoming a WTO member in 2007.

Vietnam will continue its active participation in all forums of the WTO framework, he said.

He also reiterated that the Vietnamese Government has been speeding up the reform of tax policies and administrative procedures for customs and taxation with a view to facilitating import-export.

On the same day, the Vietnamese official attended a meeting with representatives of the World Trade Institute.

He asked the institute to support his ministry in improving its human resources in the field of international economic integration and in assessing the effects of trade and international economic integration on socio-economic development in order to help Vietnam make the adjustments necessary to take full advantage of the opportunities of globalisation.-VNA
