Vietnamese player Nguyen Hoang Yen won the silver medal in the women’s xiangqi (Chinese chess) category at the third SportAccord World Mind Games in Beijing, China which took place from December 12-18.
In addition to Yen, Vietnamese team included Vietnamese xiangqi master Uong Duong Bac and chess star Le Quang Lien.
Bac finished in sixth position in the men’s xiangqi category, while Liem ranked in the penultimate position and sixth place in the men’s rapid and blitz chess events, respectively. Liem also just claimed the eighth place with five points in the basque editions at the games.
Eventually, the host team came out on top at this year’s SportAccord World Mind Games with nine gold medals, followed by Russia with six and Monaco with two.
The biennial event drew the participation of 150 players from 40 countries and territories around the world.-VNA
