HCM City (VNA) – ‘Cuoc Doi Cua Yen’ (Yen’s Life) directed by Dinh Tuan Vu won the Grand Festival Prize at the World Premieres Film Festival in the Philippines on July 3.

The film, produced by the Vietnam Feature Film Studio, is about the life of a 10-year-old girl whose marriage was arranged by her parents.

It stars Do Thuy Hang as the protagonist Yen and actors Lam Tung and Minh Huong.

Last year the film won five prizes, the Silver Lotus Award, best actress in a leading role, best music score, best cinematography and best production design, at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival.

At the World Premieres Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize went to the Philippine movie Daughters of the Three Tailed Banner, the Best Actress award to Malaysia’s June Lojong for Redha, and Best Actor award to Spain’s Israel Elejalde for Love Above All Things.

The festival, in Manila from June 29 to July 10, has a programme called Country of Honour highlighting fimmaking talent around the world. Vietnam is featured this year. The organisers chose eight contemporary Vietnamese films for screening through the festival at the Cinematheque Centre Manila.-VNA
