One million people will be screened for diseases through an artificial intelligence (AI) platform during a volunteer programme for community health jointly organised by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation (VYF) and the Vietnam Young Physicians' Association (VYPA), heard a press conference in Hanoi on May 13.

Some 6,000 young doctors will join hands to provide free-of-charge health check-ups and medicines for people in 63 cities and provinces from May 12-19.

A medical specialist training programme has opened in Hai Phong city for 19 medical graduates who have volunteered to work in various remote localities in the country.

New medical graduates could be required to work for three to five years at healthcare centres in outlying regions to meet a critical lack of doctors and help improve healthcare services there.

Seven young doctors from the Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics and Bach Mai Hospital have been dispatched to work in impoverished districts in the northern mountainous provinces of Lao Cai, Bac Kan, Son La and Dien Bien.

As many as 78 young doctors have been recruited for a pilot project on sending doctors to disadvantaged areas including mountainous and border areas and islands as of June, the Health Ministry said.
